Reaching extraordinary heights – Tough Mudder South Africa

Tough Mudder hit South African turf for the first time in September 2018.

After taking part in one of the many global Tough Mudder events in the UK, co-owners of Invictus Events & Entertainment (IEE), Andrew Douglas and Jody Aufrichtig, decided to partner with Tough Mudder Inc to bring the event to South Africa.

“This has set the stage for years to come,” agreed Andrew

He believe Obstacle Course Racing promotes a healthy and active lifestyle.

“It transforms ordinary events into extraordinary life achievements and experiences.”

Tough Mudder is a team-oriented challenge with no winner, no finisher medal, no clock to race against—just an ice-cold drink and a few good scrapes from a day spent outside and free from everyday BS. There is 16 km (Full) or 8 km (Half) of mud and obstacles built to test your mental grit, camaraderie and all-around physical fitness.

“It is for anyone who has ever followed their gut, tried to defy gravity, chosen “dare” over “truth,” taken risks, sought thrills, or is generally awesome at life.”

There’ve been a few highlights for the crew at Tough Mudder; one to top the list would be the Top 4 Tougher Mudder winners who were taken on the trip of a lifetime, taking part in the toughest challenge they had ever faced, World’s Toughest Mudder hosted in Atlanta, Georgia.

“These elite athletes represented our country and did us proud!”

Andrew encourages anyone to give OCR a go, because after all, “what have you got to lose?”

A sport providing the chance to escape the ordinary, OCR can be life-changing and challenge people to rise to any occasion.

“When was the last time you did something for the first time?” he asks.

With Tough Mudder South Africa setting the stage for OCR to get continuously bigger and better, through larger and better trails, Andrew firmly believes the achievements within the sport are so rewarding.

“It’s about ordinary people inspiring themselves, and others, to achieve extraordinary heights.”
