Race Report + Gear Review: Thomas van Tonder – The Beast + Salomon XA-Amfibs

What an EPIC weekend… Tested my new #Salomons at The Beast OCR on Saturday and then we had the #WoldPack on Sunday. #LiveWithoutLimits #TimeToPlay
Strava links…

#Beast on Saturday was a bit of a new concept to the beast having 2 loops of the same 4km track, and on the second loop, we have some bonus obstacles. Tyre flip and some harder rigs o and the one loved by all… doughnut carry. made the second loop a bit more of a challenge.
I liked that there was a focus on fun for this event, with is nice to see, Remembering why we do what we do. A reminder not to take things too seriously.

I took my Salomon Sa XA-Amfibs out for its first OCR race, so #Impressed, Yea they are as light as they look. What I like more about these than other OCR related shoes,
1- There is actually a proper sole with an aggressive grip
2- A rock plate that keeps those annoying sharp rocks at bay
We did not have any water on route, so the drainage and water retention is still to be properly tested. But if you have seen these bad boys, you would know that water is what these were made for.
3-Toe box is a bit wider, with works perfectly for my feet.
4- They look so RAD.
I will have a full review on my you tube channel soon.

Shout out to the Fitcave marshals, did help a LOT that everyone knew exactly what is supposed to happen, and keeping it fair for all.

Blessed to take home the win again, trying to keep up the solo winner title at The Beast events

Jeep Team team mate Jay Jay Deysel taking home second place and Wynand Louw the 3rd spot.

Sunday was a challenge on its own, joining in on the Wolf pack challenge on the Aerial Cableway Hartbeespoort mountain.
Running for no prize or podium, but for sharing the love of running out on the mountain trails.
There is no compulsory entry fee, but a donation can be made towards a worthy cause as an entry fee.

To complete the wolf pack challenge you need to summit the cable way mountain 5 times. The first 3 is usually all jokes and fun, jho that last 2 haha.

The spirit between the athletes is what keeps you moving on those last 2, and as we usually do, we had to put an OCR spin on things,
The deal was that we would keep on running until Kyle was done running. so we ended up doing 6 summits instead of 5. Because being normal is way too boring

The legs can absolutely feel that extra summit today, but it is very good prep for OCR World Championships later this year

Weapon of choice for this one was the #Salomon Sence Pro 2 Trail. (Photo Below)

More than enough support on the super technical mountain trail. and still very light. use this for all my long runs and any technical mountain trail.

A vlog about this one would also be on YouTube soon.

Huge shout out to Herman Mulder for arranging another one of the amazing get-togethers, and Ryno Griesel for all of his involvement and contributions, and who ever else made this possible.

Was a pleasure spending the day with some OCR Family as well.
