Race Report: Marius Smith – OCT breakout challenge #3

Race report for OCT breakout challenge this past weekend. It was a rather chilly morning before the start nothing the hills won’t fix haha. The race start wasn’t as fast as I thought it would be but the front runners picked up the pace as soon as we hit the hills or it was just me falling behind,I managed to keep a good momentum going until I reached the first obstacle the tyre drag where I saw Greg Avierinos just having a bit of water at the hydration station,I gave the obstacle some gas and close the gap on him but also had to stop for a bit of water.

As I head off to take on the extra 5k loop separating the silent Assassin from the wolf course,I realized the technicality increased drastically and my legs started to fall apart but managed to make it to the main obstacle area, kept on pushing obstacle after obstacle getting closer to the finish until I got to the “nemesis” the last obstacle more than 30m in length and very hard on your grip strength and obstacles endurance it truly is a test of determination, standing in the way of me and my medal,I started the beast and almost making it to the bell but my hands just couldn’t hold on to the net anymore so I dropped and had to start again, knowing the second attempt is going to be even more difficult so I needed to move as fast as possible and give it my all! When I got to the net section I didn’t want to risk it again just on my hands so I pulled my arms through to give me a better edge over the monster,as I got closer to the bell I could hear the cheering of fellow competitors and friends getting louder and louder, with that extra boost I push hard to the end and finally hitting the bell and securing my 4th place spot!!

Was a hard, wet but fun race well done Rudi Shaun Delport and #OCTsouth team on a good event looking forward to see what u bring to the table at your next event.Congratulations to my teammate Bradley Claase for taking the win in the silent assasin course and my beautiful girlfriend Kirsty Rault for taking the win in the 10k trail run.
